My Story

I am a textile designer working from my studio in the garden of my Mid-Devon home. I design surface patterns which I screen print by hand onto natural fabrics, making these into furnishings, fashion accessories and household textiles. As well as fabric I screen print onto ceramics, firing my designs onto mugs and porcelain discs.

I’ve always been inspired by the shapes and colours found in nature, taking the details found in natural forms into my work. Living in the West Country gives me access to such varied landscapes and coastlines where I can spend hours picking up shells, stones, driftwood and flowers, accompanied by my collie, Moxey. These objects are often just a catalyst for my designs and the finished work may have minimal resemblance to the objects found.

My work is quite eclectic and I wouldn’t say I had one style, some of my designs are very linear with highly detailed fine lines and other designs are made using stencils, creating bold shapes and multiple layers. I draw the repeating design by hand first to decide on the layout and repeat style, occasionally using the computer to set out multiple repeats to fill my print screen. I mix all the colours by hand using dyes and mordants and as I print my fabrics in short runs the colours will vary slightly between lengths.

My training took place in Nottingham and once I finished Uni I continued in Higher education as a technician/teacher up until a few years ago. I now teach Screen-printing classes and am the Screen-print Member support at The Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter. I sell my work through exhibitions, craft fairs and through my website. I also work with private clients creating site specific art pieces from wall hangings to blinds and curtains.

In 2023 I was successfully selected to join Find A Maker and Make Southwest. 2 really prestigious craft organisations. My work will now be found in the Make Southwest shop in Bovey Tracey, Devon. My work can also be purchased from Green Hill Arts in Moretonhampstead and Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton Devon.
